Slow Fashion · Torquay, Devon
Minycled. Made with purpose.
A slow-fashion brand making ethical, limited-edition clothing in Torquay. Founded by Karen Anderson in 2021. Every piece is made to order from deadstock and recycled fabrics, and every purchase gives back.
The Founder
Karen Anderson
Karen grew up in Zambia, where she saw the real impact of fast fashion on communities and the environment. That stayed with her. She studied at the London College of Fashion and spent years in fashion retail management, which only deepened her frustration with how the industry worked.
In 2021, after being made redundant during lockdown, she started Minycled. The name comes from Minimalist and Recycled — two words that sum up exactly what the brand is about.
Her designs bring together her African heritage and the landscape of the Devonshire Riviera. Everything is made by hand, in Torquay, by a small local team.
How We Work
Made to order. No shortcuts.
We use deadstock, ex-designer fabrics, and recycled materials. Nothing is made until someone orders it. That means no overproduction, no waste sitting in a warehouse, and no cutting corners on quality.
Every garment has a scannable tag so you can see exactly where your fabric came from and who made it. We think that should be normal. It isn’t yet, but we’re working on it.
In July 2025, Minycled opened its first shop at 6 Lucius Street, Torquay. Come and find us.
What We Stand For
Three things we won’t compromise on.
No new fabric waste
Deadstock, ex-designer, and recycled materials only. We don’t buy new fabric when perfectly good fabric already exists.
Made by hand, here
Cut and sewn to order by our small team in Torquay. Karen and her seamstresses make every piece themselves.
Giving back
5% of t-shirt sales go to Nayamba School in Zambia and TWAM. Karen also runs the Sustainable Fashion Week Hub in Torquay.
Giving Back
5% of t-shirt sales. Every time.
Karen’s mum inspired her commitment to community. That’s why from the start, Minycled has donated 5% of every t-shirt sale to two organisations doing real work.
Nayamba School — supporting education in Zambia, where Karen grew up.
TWAM (Tools With A Mission) — providing tools and training to communities across Africa.
Karen also hosts the Sustainable Fashion Week Hub in Torquay, running workshops, talks, and community fashion shows across the South West.
